Bronco Railroad Terminal

Mineral Processing and Marketing is embarking on an exciting period of growth with the construction of the Bronco Railroad Terminal (BRRT). The BRRT will house an indoor unloading facility, weight scales, storage areas, conveyor systems and railroad ties allowing unit trains to be both simultaneously unloaded of one material and loaded with another. The use of our own facility to handle virutally all of the tasks associated with the transportation and sale of coke and other minerals will allow us to efficiently move products in the most cost effective manner.

Time and Dollars

Currently, in our efforts to facilitate the transport of petroleum coke from the Port of Corpus Christi to southern points in Mexico, we are forced to work with several entities--often with conflicting schedules--in order to move product in an expedient manner. This arrangement affects MPM's bottom line in two ways: higher transportation fees and significatnt time costs.

Associated costs in the transfer of coke from the Port of Corpus Christi to the Tex-Mex Railroad include trucking, rail, port, storage, weighing and transfer fees. The BRRT will significantly reduce these costs by using one trucking authority to transport coke to our new facility for the immediate loading and transfer of product to Mexico. In addition, optimum time frames may enable the simultaneous unloading of limestone from the arriving unit trains while loading the emptied cars with outgoing petcoke.

Scheduling the multiple entities involved with the transportation process can be a logistical and costly burden. Hurdles include a five day work week at the Port, cohesive truck and railroad transfers, weighing requirements and schedule conflicts. The resultant time delays involved with the use of multiple handlers translate into real and significant dollars.

What does this mean to our customers?

Faster transfer at lower cost. Using our own trasfer, transport, weighing and storage facilities will enable us to cut our Port to Tex-Mex RR transfer from 4 days to 8 hours! In a business that is charged by the ton yet pays for tranfer by the day, this translates into huge savings for both us and our customers.
